South Hills Montessori Begins Its Second Year

EUGENE, Ore. — South Hills Montessori School is proud to announce the opening of its second year as a teacher-led cooperative. In the summer of 2025, when the Montessori program that had operated at 2490 Hilyard Street since 1970 was set to close, a group of dedicated parents and veteran teachers came together in a matter of weeks to keep Montessori education alive in south Eugene.

One year later, the school has completed a full academic year, kept its experienced teaching team intact, and continued to strengthen its classrooms, playground, and multipurpose room with the support of its families and the broader community. The school serves children ages 2.5–12 in Primary and Elementary programs, with extended childcare for working families and a summer program.

As a teacher-led cooperative, South Hills Montessori is governed by the educators who work directly with the children every day, ensuring that every decision centers on student growth and the wellbeing of the whole school community.

Families interested in the 2026–2027 school year can schedule a tour by appointment. Learn more at southhillsmontessori.org or call (541) 335-1632.
